Madurai Municipal Corporation has formed a nine-member EV cell to improve electric vehicle infrastructure and promote adoption across the city. The move comes in response to growing interest from residents who cite rising petrol prices and affordable electric two-wheelers as key reasons for considering EVs, but also express concerns about limited public charging facilities and range anxiety.rnrnThe EV cell, comprising officials from multiple departments, aims to expand public charging stations, introduce battery swapping facilities for smaller vehicles, and implement incentives such as road tax exemptions and support for battery recycling firms. The initiative aligns with the Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicle Policy 2023 and seeks to transform Madurai into a dedicated “EV City” with stronger infrastructure and industry support.
